Soprano Toni Maxine is an accomplished performer and educator known for her passionate and versatile repertoire.
Most recently, Toni has performed the role of Santuzza from the opera Cavallaria Rusticana at Villa Contarini, Monselice, Italy. She also performed in a solo concert at the Basilica di S. Maria Assunta in Bagno Di Romagna as well as a join concert with acclaimed tenor Maurizio Saltarin at the Chiesa di San Martino in Este, Italy for the Este-Fredericksburg Sister City Association.
Stateside, Toni performed an evening of Italian Opera Arias with the Mid-Atlantic Wind Symphony as a benefit concert for the Fredericksburg-Este Sister City organization. Other engagements in the United States include performing as a guest soloist with The Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra, The Rappahannock Pops Orchestra, Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra, The Georgetown University Chamber Orchestra, The Fredericksburg Chamber Chorale, and The Stafford Regional Choral Society. She was also featured on National Public Radio’s Performance Today for a performance of Mendelssohn duets with international soprano Lucy Shelton.
Toni’s opera credits range from the title role in the world premiere of Michael Ching’s Faith, at Operafest of New Hampshire, to Margherita in Boito’s Mefistofele, conducted by the Metropolitan Opera’s Joan Dornemann in Tel Aviv. The Washington Post hailed her performance as Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus for the “vigor and excitement” she brought to the role of the “svelte Hungarian Countess.” Other highlighted roles include Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte, and Musetta in La Boheme. She was honored to cover the roles of Violetta (La Traviata) and Countess Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro) for Opera Roanoke productions under the baton of Metropolitan Opera conductor Steven White.
Using her training, including a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance/ Pedagogy from Texas Christian University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy/Music Education from Henderson State University, Toni is deeply committed to music education and has taught every age level: from pre-K through college, as well as elder study programs for the young at heart. Additionally, Toni has worked for the Virginia Commission for the Arts, Artist-in-Education residency program to help students create and produce original operas.
Toni’s one-woman show as Opera Clown Tessitura has entertained thousands of children at schools, libraries, museums, and festivals by introducing them to the magical world of opera. In Virginia, her show was booked through Young Audiences of Virginia and was listed in the Fairfax Arts Council Creative Arts Programs.
In addition to her performing schedule, Toni teaches a wide range of students—from high school, college, to adults—at her personal voice studio. Her training with many of the most highly sought after teachers, coaches, and conductors has helped her produce an award-winning vocal studio.
